Class of 2016 | English| Sociology | Art History
Vanessa is a junior at Drew University, majoring in English and double minoring in Sociology and Art History.
Why did you decide to be a part of the Drew University New York Semester on Communications and Media?
I have always loved reading, writing, art, and just being creative, so the media and communications industries seemed like the perfect fit for me. Since this program gives students directs, hands on, and an up close and personal look into a myriad of companies within the media and communications fields, I knew that this would be a great fit for me to narrow down my interests in both fields. Aside from learning more so I would be able to make the most informed decision for which career I want to pursue within media and communications, this program also allowed me to explore New York and get acclimated with the city.
What have you gained from the Drew NYC program so far?
A much greater perspective of the industry because I have been able to visit so many different companies and get an up close and personal look at what they do, how they do it, and what drives them to do what they do. Each company we have visited is unique and different, so this program enables me to learn so much that I wouldn’t have been able to know about otherwise.
What is your ideal job when you graduate from Drew?
Something where I can exercise my creativity and learn from and grow with the company. So ideally I see myself doing some sort of marketing either for a publishing house or PR firm, but I am always open to new experiences.
